Global Handwashing Day, Press Release

Expert terms hand washing a cheapest vaccine to prevent infections

ISLAMABAD: A kids’ show and awareness session advocated for regularly hand washing with soap to defeat harmful infectious diseases. The program was organized by Shifa International Hospital (SIH) on Saturday in connection with Global Handwashing Day. Doctors, school children, their parents, teachers and residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad attended the colorful show and awareness session to promote the healthy habit of hand washing particularly in children to prevent infections. The theme for Global Handwashing Day 2013 is “The power is in your hands”.

Baku/Islamabad (Oct 11, 2013): “The Pakistan Parliamentary Election Observation Mission has visited 15 different polling stations in various parts of Baku to observe the Azerbaijani presidential elections on October 9, 2013, met with representatives of other candidates, interacted with the common man and found the arrangements for the polling were smooth, peaceful and transparent.” This was stated by Chairman Senate Defence Committee Senator Mushahid Hussain who was addressing a press conference along with other Pakistani delegation members in Baku.

International Day of the Girl Child Observed

Islamabad: The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization together with UNICEF, observed the International Day of the Girl Child at Islamabad today. 

 

Baligh-Ur-Rehman, the Chief Guest and State Minister for Education, Trainings and Standards in Higher Education, formally inaugurated the Education Expo, “Innovating for Girls' Education” as part of celebrations for the International Day of the Girl Child 2013.

National Day, 10 October

(10 October, National Day):Republic of Fiji, is an island country in Melanesia in the South Pacific Ocean . Its closest neighbors are Vanuatu to the west, France's New Caledonia to the southwest, New Zealand to the southeast, Tonga to the east, the Samoa, France's Wallis  to the northeast and Tuvalu to the north. The country comprises an archipelago of more than 332 islands, of which 110 are permanently inhabited, and more than 500 islets, amounting to a total land area of circa 18,300 square kilometers (7,100 sq mi). The furthest island is Onu-i-Lau. The two major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, account for 87% of the population of almost 850,000. The former contains Suva, the capital and largest city. Most Fijians, i.e. three-quarters, live on Viti Levu's coasts, either in Suva or in smaller urban centers like Nadi (tourism) or Lautoka (sugar cane industry). Viti Levu's interior is sparsely inhabited due to its terrain.

Mushahid to lead Pakistan Parliamentary Delegation to Azerbaijan

Islamabad (October 6): The Chairman, Senate Defence Committee, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, is leading a 15-member Parliamentary Delegation, representing 6 political parties from ruling and opposition parties, to Azerbaijan to observe and monitor the Presidential elections there on October 9. The delegation will be in Azerbaijan during October 7-11.
Talking to the media, Senator Mushahid Hussain said: 'the team has been invited by the Election Commission of Azerbaijan given the close brotherly bond between Pakistan and Azerbaijan plus the fact that this is in recognition of the fact that Pakistan today is a vibrant and dynamic democracy, probably, the freest democracy in the Muslim World'. Azerbaijan, strategically located in the Caucasus close to Iran and Turkey, is a member of the OIC.

Government to support AIOU-AAOU to work jointly for promoting skill-based quality education: Baleegh-Ur-Rehman

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 2: Government will encourage and support Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) to work jointly for the improving living conditions of the people of Asia through skill and technology-based quality education.
This was stated by the Minister of State for Education, Engr. Muhammad Baleegh-Ur-Rehman while inaugurating the 27th annual conference of AAOU here on Wednesday at the University’s main campus. The two-day conference was being attended by nearly 200 delegates from home and abroad.

Later on identified as group of Afghani dacoits involved in snatching vehicles from Rawalpindi-Islamabad. As per details Islamabad police informed NH&MP that today at 0600 hrs a white colour Corolla GLI car No.WB-945 model 2012 has been stolen from the jurisdiction of Police station I-9 which belongs to the voice president Allied Bank Sher Dil Khan.
